UK - Barclays Global Investors (BGI) has appointed Simon Thompson as head of equity trading (Europe) where he will be responsible for the global equity trading requirements of BGI's active, index and transition products in Europe.
He replaces Peter Chalky White who leaves BGI after 15 years, in order to commit more of his time to his golf handicap.
Prior to joining BGI, Thompson spent 10 years in the broking business. Whilst at Credit Lyonnais he was responsible for the global portfolio trading business in London, as well as managing its global electronic brokerage business. Previously, he was head of equity derivative and portfolio trading sales with Nomura International, where he worked for eight years.
Thompson will be based in London, reporting functionally to Minder Cheng, global head of equity trading San Francisco and locally to Chris Thomason, head of core investments.
* BGI has also appointed Vin Bhattacharjee as head of business development for its intermediated investor business with responsibility for the regulated markets of Continental Europe. Bhattacharjee will be based in BGI’s London office and will report to John Demaine, head of intermediated investor business for BGI Europe.

This week's edition of Professional Pensions is out now.
The government is in talks with the UK and Irish pensions regulators over how to protect members of cross-border schemes in the event of a no-deal Brexit.
The equalisation of guaranteed minimum pensions (GMPs) is at least two years away from being completed, and could take longer than four years for some schemes, a poll has found.
The Pensions Regulator will consider if schemes should be required to have professional trustees and assess the case for greater regulation of administrators and system providers, PP can reveal.
