Henderson was one of the principal advisers to the government on its privatisation programme and was subsequently awarded a CBE in recognition of his work.
Scott Bell, group managing director of Standard Life, said: “We are extremely pleased Giles Henderson will be joining the board as a non-executive director. With his knowledge and experience I know he will make a significant contribution to the further development of Standard Life.”
