The sector was up 4%, beating the 0.5% rise in overall hedge fund performance posted by the index for November.
Roland Lorenzo, president and chief operating officer of Credit Suisse First Boston Tremont Index, said that consistent returns provided by hedge funds have many saved diversified portfolios from double-digit losses:
As measured by the CSFB/Tremont Hedge Fund Index - up 3.2% year-to-date - absolute return strategies are indeed a powerful risk management tool.
The global macro sector, followed closely by convertible arbitrage, posted the highest year-to-date figure up 15.5%.
