ITALY - Henderson Global Investors (HGI) - the investment arm of Australian financial group AMP - has appointed Giorgio Giovannini as head of its Italian Office, based in Milan.
Giovannini joined HGI in 2000 as director of Italian operations. In his new role he will develop and co-ordinate the firm’s Italian activities including asset management, property and private equity.
HGI has had an institutional presence in Italy since 1996, and has a number of Italian partnerships in place including one with Banca Popolare di Lodi who manage the group’s international funds. In May 2000 HGI became sub manager of BPL's international mutual fund portfolio. The agreement also allowed the firm to enter the Italian retail market, as BPL distributes 13 funds of the Henderson Horizon SICAV.
Henderson’s also has a deal with Intesa Asset Management to develop property funds.
Giovannini will be supported in his new role by the recently created advisory board, led by Gino Pennacchi.
Prior to joining HGI, Giovannini was financial director at Banca Popolare di Abbiategrasso. He has also worked for Chase Manhattan and Dresdner banks both in Italy and abroad.
