Jupiter Asset Management has raised £71m in equity for the new Jupiter Global Green Investment Trust (JGGIT).
The new trust will invest in companies worldwide that are responding positively to the challenge of environmental sustainability or are making a positive commitment to social well-being. This will include investing in environmental technologies, waste recycling and public transport.
Of the £71m, £52m has come from new investors while the remaining £19m has rolled over from the previous trust -Jupiter International Green Investment Trust - a split-capital trust that had a fixed life. The trust wound up on March 20 this year.
Head of Jupiter's Green department Simon Baker - who will manage the fund - said: We believe that the interest reflects people's conviction that companies that respond to environmental challenges offer solid investment opportunities.
