UK - Oil and gas companies with strong corporate social responsibility policies have outperformed competitors by almost 40pc, a new report shows.
The Innovest Strategic Value Advisors report ranked 33 companies - including a number from emerging markets - on their CSR performance.
Innovest found that leaders in the ratings - including BP, Suncor, Norsk Hydro and Shell - clearly outperformed the laggards, Yukos, PetroChina and Marathon.
Between 1996 and 2004, the higher-rated companies outperformed lower-rated companies by 38.6 percentage points.
