US - The Teachers' Retirement System of Louisiana (TRSL) has hailed its decision to expand its presence into alternative investments, as the fund posted a 13.6% return for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2006.
The strong performance was largely attibutable to the fund's impressive 26.7% return on its alternative investment portfolio.
Board of Trustees Chair Sheryl Abshire said the alternative investment portfolio increased TRSL’s total fund return 16% more than a portfolio invested solely in publicly traded stocks and bonds, which would have produced a return of only 11.73 percent.
“TRSL’s alternative investments have consistently added significant value and strategic direction to the system’s portfolio and have reduced total fund risk,” Abshire said.
Our decision to expand TRSL's portfolio into alternative markets has proven to be a wise course of action.
