Fifteen UK teaching associations have set up the Teachers' National Stakeholder Pension Scheme under the Trade Union Congress's (TUC) existing stakeholder plan.
The scheme is open to teachers earning less than £30,000 per year.
Information about the new scheme is currently being mailed to 35,000 schools and colleges in England and Wales starting this week.
The plan runs alongside the final salary teachers’ pension scheme and current additional voluntary contribution (AVC) arrangements, and will be administered by Prudential.
