The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries has appointed Alan Phillips to the role of Chairman of its Management Board.
Phillips - who will start his new role on 13 September - succeeds Sally Bridgeland, the current chief executive of BP Pension Trustees.
The Actuarial Profession's management board has oversight responsibilities for operational matters related to the organisation's strategy, corporate plan, policy and operational plans, and all matters related to the Profession's resources.
Phillips became a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in 1984. He was formerly a partner at Bacon & Woodrow and principal at Hewitt Associates, where his roles included a number of senior management and leadership positions in its UK and European consulting business; before becoming a non-executive director of Hewitt's two main UK trading subsidiaries shortly before the merger of Aon Consulting and Hewitt Associates in 2010.
Commenting on the appointment, Institute and Faculty of Actuaries president Jane Curtis said: "As the first chairman of the newly merged Institute and Faculty of Actuaries' management board, Sally has played a vital role in ensuring that we have strong foundations for the future and the Profession owes her a great deal.
"Of course, I also want to welcome Alan as our new Management Board Chairman. Alan brings with him a wealth of senior leadership experience and operational expertise that will be of great benefit to the Profession as we continue to drive forward our strategy of positioning ourselves as the leading professional body in quantitative risk management."
