Local Government Pension Scheme administration – a debate

Professional Pensions | 11 Feb 2012 | 13:59

Professional Pensions is to hold an online debate to discuss Local Government Pension Scheme administration on 29 February at 11am.

This Pensions Conjecture debate will look at ways in which LGPS funds can further improve the efficiency of their scheme administration; ask if there are any lessons they can learn from their private sector counterparts and see how the innovative use of systems and software can help reduce costs.

It will also look at third-party administration and outsourcing, and ask what the effect such a move would have on both costs and the current staff working for the scheme.

In particular, it will ask how public sector pension reforms will change the way the LGPS is administered; see how systems and software innovation can help schemes improve service and efficiency; and look at whether internet-based communications and ‘self-service' web-based member administration can help schemes improve scheme performance.

It will also look at if outsourcing administration can help cut costs - and assess if going one step further and using "near-shoring" or "off-shoring" for some of their admin functions would be beneficial.

Details of how to listen to this debate will be published this week.

For further information about speaking in the debate, contact John Waterson on 020 7316 9323 or by e-mail at john.waterson@incisivemedia.com
