Baring Asset Management is set to harmonise its pan-European equity platform with the appointment of Jan Mantel as head of the new UK and Europe investment team.
Mantel will lead the team, which will be responsible for managing all of Barings’ equity investments in the UK and Europe. He will be based in London and will report to chief investment officer, Michael Hughes.
Mantel joins Barings from Merrill Lynch where he advised the firm and its clients on pension reform in Europe and equity strategy. Prior to this he spent two years at Dresdner RCM in London where he served as CIO of European equities and later as managing director and global CIO for Dresdner’s London business.
Mantel’s role at Barings will be to fully harmonise the pan-European research platform and combine the UK and Europe investment teams.
As part of the Barings harmonisation process, Neil Robson will move from his position as head of European equity to his new role as global sector strategist for the firm. He will also report to Michael Hughes.
Richard Buxton has resigned from the firm to manage UK equity unit trusts for Schroder Investment Management.
