An all party parliamentary to investigate the failure of the Visteon pension scheme, set up by MP Stephen Metcalfe, has achieved formal recognition.
The Conservative representative for Basildon and Thurrock said he had been greatly encouraged by the number of members who had offered their support following the group's first meeting earlier this month.
Metcalfe said: "The inaugural meeting took place and started with a very useful presentation by Visteon Pensioners Action Group.
"It was well attended and many useful suggestions were made about its aims and what action can be taken to support the Visteon pensioners, including some form of inquiry."
The group has 20 members whose constituents were affected by the closure of Visteon with a similar number expected to join now it has been formally recognised.
It will look to publish a report into the complaints of Visteon members and will also examine the wider question of how The Pensions Regulator, the Ombudsman and the Pension Protection Fund interact in similar cases.
Visteon campaigners have been gathering increasing support in Parliament since the Ford spin-off entered administration in 2009 with a £350m pension shortfall.
Last year an early day motion put forward by Metcalfe and co-sponsored by Tory MP Peter Bottomley, Labour MPs Geraint Davies and Mark Durkan, Plaid Cymru MP Jonathan Edwards and Liberal Democrat MP Bob Russell attracted cross-party support (PP Online, 11 November 2011).
