Ex-Visteon workers to meet MEPs in Brussels

Pension campaigners will meet with Euro MPs next week to discuss the fall-out from the collapse of car parts manufacturer Visteon.

Four members of the Visteon Pensions Action Group will meet with Labour MEPS Derek Vaughan, Richard Howitt and Peter Skinner in Brussels on 22 June.

Vaughan has already raised the issue in the European Parliament (PP Online, 31 May) and said the group was keen to discuss ways in which they could support the campaign.

He said: "Labour MEPs fully support the Visteon pensioners. We have already met with Ford Europe and written to Visteon and the European commission. We now look forward to meeting representatives of the action group in Brussels."

Workers who transferred their accrued benefits after Visteon UK was spun off from parent company Ford claim they received guarantees from Ford that these benefits would be protected - which the company failed to honour (PP Online, 10 September, 2009).

The motoring giant is currently being challenged in UK courts over its responsibility to the pension scheme members (PP Online, 26 January).
