Margaret Snowdon won the Pensions Personality of the Year award at a glitzy gala dinner at London's Grosvenor House Hotel last night.

Thousands of PP readers and a panel of judges voted on which character had done the most for the industry in 2014 from a strong shortlist of six candidates.

Snowdon saw off stiff competition from Jelf Employee Benefits head of benefits strategy Steve Herbert; Capita Employee Benefits head of investment consulting Bobby Riddaway; LCP partner Bob Scott; National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) chairman Ruston Smith, First Actuarial director Henry Tapper; and Nabarro partner Anne-Marie Winton.

She was appointed an OBE in the 2010 New Year's Honours List for services to Pensioners.

Snowdon (pictured) has been named as one of the Top 50 Influential People in Pensions for three years in a row and was recognised for her outstanding contribution to the pensions industry by the Pensions Management Institute (PMI) in 2012.

A director of JLT Trustee Solutions, Snowdon is also chairman of the Monitoring Board on Incentive Exercises. Her other industry roles include chairman of the Pensions Administration Standards Association (PASA), and she served as chairman of The Pensions Advisory Service (TPAS) for ten years.
