The director of a Merseyside nursery has admitted to failing to comply with automatic enrolment (AE) responsibilities after setting up a pension scheme that was left empty.
Christina Moore is the main director of Waterloo-based Sulouste which trades as Tiny Hearts Day Nursery.
While Moore had informed The Pensions Regulator (TPR) that her 13 staff had been automatically enrolled, a whistleblower later revealed this was not the case.
A TPR investigation found a pension scheme had been set up but Moore had not complied with AE responsibilities and had avoided paying contributions into staff pension pots.
Moore pleaded guilty to recklessly providing TPR with false and misleading information and will be sentenced on 20 November at Brighton Magistrates' Court.
TPR director of AE Darren Ryder said: "Any employee who is eligible for AE must be put into a pension and contributions must be paid on their behalf.
"TPR will not stand by if an employer does not meet their responsibilities and we will take action to make sure staff get the pensions they are entitled to."
