Pi Partnership has acquired Manchester-based independent trustee firm, Align Pensions.

Pi said the "strategic" decision to buy Align – a firm founded by Sam Ashraf, Darren Howarth and Bhavna Kumar in 2019 – reflected its commitment to delivering independent trustee services and would drive its continued growth.

Pi Partnership chief executive Simone Lavelle said: "The acquisition of Align supports our strategy of growing as an independent company and we look forward to welcoming our new colleagues into the Pi team. This is an interesting time for pension schemes and we are sure that our combined skills and increased geographical coverage will add value to both trustee boards and employers."

Align Pensions director Howarth added: "When we started Align in 2019 we wanted to provide a bespoke service to our clients, as a wholly director owned business with no outside shareholders or other financial commitments. We are delighted to have found an organisation that shares our values and we look forward to working with the Pi team to continue to provide a high quality and independent service to our clients."
