Pension trustee and founder of Mindful Pensions David Butcher has launched The Mindfulness Experience (TME), a learning programme to explore mindfulness and its application in both professional and personal lives.

The programme – targeted at pension industry professionals – aims to redefine mindfulness as a cognitive skill, essential for developing emotional intelligence, self-awareness, and effective mind management.

Butcher is a pensions industry veteran who has been in the industry for more than 50 years, holding senior positions at Invesco, Credit Lyonnais, and Flemings. He is currently a trustee on the master trust boards at Scottish Widows and The People's Pension.

He said TME is more holistic and practical than an app-based approach – and is designed to help participants build their own mindfulness practice and transform their mental health, resilience and productivity.

Butcher said: "Mindfulness is a soft skill that delivers hard results in terms of wellbeing, resilience and productivity.

"With the ongoing challenges of hybrid working, and the sheer magnitude of change and uncertainty ahead, I believe that now is the perfect time for mindfulness to add real and sustained value to the pensions industry."

The Mindfulness Experience is structured in two parts. The first part is an introduction to mindfulness which aims to unpack the theory and practice of the technique, wake up participants' emotional intelligence and kickstart their mindfulness practice.

The second part builds on the introduction – providing an in-depth exploration of mindfulness, its practice and application. These sessions will focus on another way of being, the heart of practice, and mastering and embedding mindfulness.

Module one is offered as a standalone course. Modules two, three and four need to be attended in sequential order.
