Case study: Supporting employee wellbeing with the Institution of Civil Engineers Benevolent Fund

clock

Financial resilience is a high indicator of financial wellbeing. Debi O'Donovan explores how benevolent funds help staff in financial trouble.

A number of employers and professional associations offer benevolent funds for employees or members in need of financial help.

One of these is the Institution of Civil Engineers Benevolent Fund (ICE), which helps all civil engineers who are, or have been, members of ICE.

It offers them counselling (bereavement, stress and relationships), debt management, financial assistance, funding to make life with illness or disability more manageable, a 24/7 helpline, and an online wellbeing portal.

ICE Benevolent Fund chief executive Kris Barnett says: “We exist to support our members when they have fallen on hard times. We also support them in their lives and careers with tips and tools so they can face life’s challenges with confidence and resilience.”
