James Tufts has been hired as UK life and pensions lead partner at EY and will start work on 3 May.
He will also fulfil senior roles on key audit pursuits and client account relationships working closely with Rodney Bonnard, UK insurance leader, and Shaun Crawford, global insurance leader, as part of the senior insurance team of EY.
He originally worked for EY from 2001 to 2014 and is returning to the firm after a two-year absence during which time he worked as chief risk operator for Guardian Financial Services.
He was executive management member of a leading financial services firm.
Bonnard said: "The whole team very much looks forward to working with him [Tufts] as we continue to build and consolidate EY's market leading presence in the insurance sector."
Tufts added: "This is a hugely challenging time for the UK insurance industry as it faces ongoing difficult economic conditions and a rapidly evolving regulatory framework."
The government has confirmed the current interim chairwoman of The Pensions Ombudsman (TPO), Caroline Rookes, will continue the role in a permanent capacity.
