Roger Marshall has been put on the board and made a non-executive director by the Pension Insurance Corporation (PIC).
He will chair the company's audit committee and spent almost 40 years with PwC where he was latterly lead partner for FTSE 100 companies, across a variety of sectors.
Marshall is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW).
He said: "This is a very interesting time to be joining PIC's board as the company matures into a leading insurance company."
PIC chairman Sir Mark Weinberg added: "He [Marshall] has a deep understanding of insurance from his client work at PwC and his non-executive experience since then. He therefore brings a wealth of expertise that will benefit PIC as we continue to develop and I want to welcome him to the board."
