The number of deaths registered in England and Wales in week 8 of 2021 was 8% more than expected compared with 47% more the week prior, according to the Continuous Mortality Investigation (CMI).

The latest update from the CMI's mortality monitor showed 949 excess deaths were registered between 20 February and 26 February. This down significantly from the 1,595 excess deaths recorded the week...
