A senior executive at one of the UK’s largest Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) pools has completed a 1,300km cycling challenge in a bid to raise money for children’s charities.
Border to Coast Pensions Partnership chief stakeholder officer Ewan McCulloch took on the challenge of travelling from Cumbria to the south coast of England, completing his epic journey on Friday (14 August).
Funds raised during the challenge will be shared between Leeds Hospitals Charity, Border to Coast's Charity of the Year, and a range of children's and community charities nominated by the local government partner funds, ensuring the impact is felt in communities across England.
During the 10-day challenge, McCulloch visited each of the 18 local government pension funds that collectively own Border to Coast Pensions Partnership.
The route had been designed to connect the pension funds from north to south, highlighting the partnership that brings them together. At each stop, Ewan met representatives from the funds and helped shine a spotlight on local charities they had chosen to support.
McCulloch said it was all worth it to raise money for such worthwhile causes.
Commenting on LinkedIn following the completion of the challenge, McCulloch said: "I'm aware that while I may be the frontman of this mad but wonderful adventure, it's only been made possible by the vast array of support and encouragement of too many people to mention. The LGPS is a truly wonderful ecosystem where the apparently impossible can be achieved."
Border to Coast Pensions Partnership is owned by 18 local government pension funds.
