UK - Tom Merchant (pictured) has been appointed Chief Executive of Universities Superannuation Scheme Limited, the UK's third largest private sector pension scheme, following the retirement of David Chynoweth.
During the past four years, he has worked as an independent management consultant advising on major acquisitions, public-to-private transactions, providing interim management services and advising leading finance houses on their investment and asset management.
Merchant, who was born in South Africa, has lived and worked on fourcontinents and has held posts in Dubai, Sydney and Cape Town. He gained a B.Sc (Eng) at Cape Town University, where he began his business career with a local firm of consulting engineers.
