The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has hired Nicola Parish as its first executive director for front-line regulation, after the role was created last year.
Parish (pictured), whose appointment was approved by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP), will oversee education and enablement activities of the watchdog's customer support and regulatory transaction teams.
She will also be responsible for risk identification and escalation by Intelligence, and the case management team's enforcement interventions.
The role was created alongside the watchdog's front-line regulation directorate last autumn, but was filled by TPR's chief executive on an interim basis until Parish's appointment.
She joined TPR as a litigator in 2008 and has since held the roles of director of legal services and enterprise risk management, and director of case management.
She said: "I relish the challenge of bringing together our front-line regulatory teams, enabling TPR to use its collective resources as effectively as possible to respond to the emerging risks in the pensions sector.
"Having worked in regulation for 20 years, I strongly believe in the role TPR plays supporting pension trustees, sponsoring employers and retirement savers, and I can't wait to get on with the job."
TPR chair Mark Boyle welcomed the range of experience Parish would bring to the role.
He said: "I'm very pleased to appoint Nicola to what is a pivotal role in TPR. She will be leading a number of teams that see at close quarters the challenges facing the pensions sector. Nicola has a wealth of legal, investigative and regulatory experience, which stands her in good stead, and I look forward to working closely with her on TPR's board."
The government has confirmed the current interim chairwoman of The Pensions Ombudsman (TPO), Caroline Rookes, will continue the role in a permanent capacity.
The Pensions Management Institute (PMI) has appointed three non-executive directors and an executive director to its board.
Former Financial Regulators Complaints Commissioner Antony Townsend is to become chair of an expanded Determinations Panel at The Pensions Regulator (TPR).
Six members of Ross Trustees’ pension trustee and support teams have been promoted into new roles.
