UK - Financial services giant Barclays has seen its UK-based scheme's £414m FRS17 surplus wiped out by falling markets - and it is now £1.3bn in deficit.
At the start of 2002, Barclays’ UK schemes – including the £10.7bn Barclays Bank UK Retirement Fund – were worth a combined £12.4bn and had a surplus of £414m.
